polysius® pure oxyfuel – a step towards climate-friendly cement
polysius® pure oxyfuel is a technology for reducing CO2 emissions in cement production. It uses pure oxygen instead of combustion air, which means that the exhaust gas consists mainly of CO2 and almost 100 percent of the CO2 can be captured from the manufacturing process. This technology aims to make cement production climate-neutral and at the same time make CO2 useful for the chemical industry. Improvements in the process reduce costs and increase efficiency compared to previous versions.
The polysius® activated clay technology uses thermally activated clay as an additive to reduce the clinker factor in cement. This leads to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and energy costs in cement production. Activated clay replaces up to 50 percent of the clinker, requires less energy for production and improves the quality of the cement. The first plant using this technology is being built in Cameroon and will save around 120,000 tons of CO2 annually.
The polysius® booster mill enables an additional grinding stage for the fine grinding of cement, which increases the specific energy efficiency and boosts production capacity by 10 to 20 percent. It improves cement quality and enables the production of high-performance and more sustainable cement with a lower clinker content. This mill has a modular design and can be integrated into existing grinding plants, enabling a quick return on investment.
polysius® fuel substitution technology enables cement plants to use up to 100 percent alternative fuels such as biomass, residual materials and waste instead of fossil fuels. This significantly reduces CO2 emissions and the cost of CO2 certificates, increases the efficiency and sustainability of cement production and enables comprehensive waste management.
The polflame® Burner is an innovative burner that burns alternative fuels efficiently in the clinker zone, replacing fossil fuels. In addition, the prepol® SC Step Combustor enables long dwell times and flexible fuel utilization thanks to its combustion chamber system. This technology is particularly suitable for the incineration of large and wet waste, which leads to savings in fuel costs and makes the production of cement more sustainable.
On the rocks: the cement industry accounts for almost seven percent of global CO2 emissions. We are working every day to finally make a grey industry greener.
